I love Fall even though that means winter is so much closer. Anywho, i started College, i don't like it very much. Actually it's frustrating me, but i will just have to calm myself down and put my head in the game. I have been riding Asinaway more and more these past few months. She is defiantly my dream horse. It's funny really, that all this time my Dream horse was right infront of me. Silly me!

Dakota is getting big, and she is such a charcter; always make me laugh. She's interested in everything! Our biggest problem is her jumping up on people. But with time we will teach her not to, she's still a pup is is very hyper. I love her though and as the days go on i know that i chose the right dog. Well she chose me really.

The pigs are really big and almost ready to go to the butcher. I was asked if i would be said, i said not really. They are cute but i know they are not pets.

I finally got to ride English. I bought my new girth and it fits. Hurray! It felt so good and i love it. I think Asinaway liked it too, or at least i hope she did. She was a bit nervous at first cause it probably was the first time she had and English saddle on her in a longgg time. But she did well. I walked a bit and trotted once. I can't wait to learn to post and such.

Me and Sean got our first deer of the season, it was early doe season in my area. It was a 150 yard shot, with a shot gun. It was amazing and a good shot too. I wish i could have shot it but it was to far.

So with all that said. Picture time:

Dakota Got into my moms flower pot and would not get out!

Me on Asinaway in English tack for the first time!!I love this horse.

Tuesday, August 19, 2008

Things have been going good, we have been working on our barn and finishing the front paddock which is also my riding arena. I have been working with comet so that has been going better then expected. Dakota's getting big, she's such a character. She will take eggs from our chicken coop and not even break them.

Been riding in the saddle more. Friend says's she sees so much more confidence in me then she has ever seen. Even rode Asinaway yesterday. I tacked her up, lunged her, then rode her walk trot. I dident ride long because it was so hot, but just enough. Like i said before i love riding her. Her trot is so smooth, and so nice to ride. She takes care of me even if she was a bit hyper yesterday i know that she was being gentle with me.

But i am so glad we have finished most of the barn and have finished the Paddock for forever. It's very nice and roomy, and i finally turned half of the barn into a run in. So i will feel so much better when it rains ans snows. I will know that they will go in if they feel like it.

So that's basically it around the farm. Been doing little projects and such. It's chilly today, signaling fall is coming.

So with all that said here are the pictures:

Riding Comet in the back field.

The barn, finally painted. They are of course going to be butchered later on for meat, but it's fun to name them. And i would also like to introduce Dakota, our Eight-week-old Yellow female lab. We got her yesterday. She's such a cutie and so smart, she's starting to learn her name already and she's half potty-trained. I have been waiting three years to get a lab and I'm so excited sean finally let me have one.

Things have been going good with me and Comet. I have been riding him everyday, except for last week since i was not home at all. I rode him with a saddle, and actually cantered for the first time since i had my accident. It was nice to actually canter, but i noticed that his transitions are messed up. So once all this rain drys up we need to work on a few things. He is still up for sale, i have not backed down from that.

College is starting soon, I'm quite excited about that. A tad nervous, but thats to be expected. I need to go get my books soon, but i do have most of everything i need. I'm still trying to get a job so me and Sean and Dakota can get our own place.

Thats about all thats happening in my life as of now.....

Pictures Finally!!

The pigs when we first got them, they are much bigger now.

The first day we got her.

Playing with her tiger baby.

Me sleeping on the couch with her, i could not help it.
Summer day's

I graduated on June 8th and my Grad party was June 21st, both went good. Things are starting to calm down, so thats a big relief. I get my wisdom teeth out Monday, so i will be out of commission for a few days. so i have to trust others to do things for me. Our pigs are going to arrive in a week or so. More things i have to take care of, although i don't mind.

The front Paddock is a mess, more like a swamp then a horse pen. So we are cutting down trees, and putting sand in there. I will be able to ride in there because it will be a pen/riding arena. My parents said we don't have the funds to make a new pen just for riding so this will have to do for now. It's a lot of work but if we work hard it will take us a week or two to get it done.

I have also decided to sell comet, i put his ad up yesterday night. I love that horse very much but i need a horse i feel confident on. We have been doing good, but i want to ride for fun and not have to be worried about getting thrown all the time. He's just to unpredictable and tooo GREEN. It's a hard for me, but i know it will work out in the end. And i did give him till the end of June and it's still not working out. So i hope he goes to a good home, someone that will be willing to train him.

Picture time!

Me on Asinaway.

My brother and his son. So i stayed home, and my Mother and Father went shopping.

This week has been a really big week for me, i had accomplished many things that have helped me gain my confidence back riding horses. I rode plenty times this week almost everyday, since it has been sunny, a bit cold on some days but ridable. The horses were put out in the back field where they got to eat some grass and run. I have to say i have never seen Asinaway at a full on Gallop like she was, but i could tell she loved that freedom in the big pasture.

After they grazed for a bit and got the silly's out of them, Sean decided it was time for me to start my journey to feeling more relaxed riding. He said by the end of this week he will have me on my own horse riding in the saddle again. I saddled up Asinaway, Sean rode her for a bit to show me that she was not going to do anything bad. I got on and sean Lead me around for a bit. It felt so good to be on such a horse like Asin. I have been on her before but i felt my confidence level raising.

I got on Comet and had sean Lead me around once on him bareback, just to say i Rode him.

The Next couple days came me riding Asin all by myself again, in preparation to ride Comet. Sean unclipped me, and off i went trotting, and just walking. No way was i ready to canter in a saddle in again, but in due time i am ready. To my surprise i felt ready to Ride Comet. So i dismounted and let Sean ride Asin, and i saddled up and bridled comet all by myself. Now this is a bit accomplishment by it's self since i usually need help doing this.

I mounted, and all i could think of was getting thrown off. This would be the first time i sat in my own saddle on Comet since being Thrown. I usually ride bareback. Now i know i should have lunged him with the saddle on but if i dident just get on i would have chickened out. With Sean's encouragement we rode for quite awhile. I was never thrown, comet never bucked or took of with me on him. I know he could feel me shaking and my heart beat was fast, but we did fine. He was a bit jumpy and was acting up but i stayed in control and had a semi nice ride.

Thursday i was going to ride again, but yet again comet was being bad. I was frustrated and upset, so Sean helped me lunge comet to show him his attitude problem is not accepted. Sean suggested i not ride Comet today and he put me up on Asin to gain more confidence. The more i ride Asin who let me tell you is a dream to Ride, it makes me want to sell Comet and get more a broke horse that i feel comfortable with. But i don't want to sell him, i guess i will take this summer to work him, then before i go to college i will make my decision. It may be hard but i have to do it.

I only have one picture today but i will get more.

My three Ducks, Used to have 32 but some died and others we gave away. 32 was way to many and they kept breeding and breeding, soon we would have had 60 or so maybe even more. I only name one and thats Roman the black and white one by itself. I had helped him get better when he hurt his wing.

Monday, April 28, 2008

Sadly it's cold again, we had such great weather for several weeks. It's supposed to rain and be gloomy all week, yuck. My dads finally retiring on Wednesday, so i have to go to his work for his goodbye party.

The baby chicks are born, we only have two at the moment. I'm unsure if the rest will hatch, but it's the first batch so it's fine. They were born over the weekend on Friday and sat. I already named them Little foot and Muffin. Little foot is very brave, we think it may be a Rooster but we are not sure yet. Little is bigger the Muffin. Muffin i say is defiantly a hen but then i could be wrong. But she is a bit more cuddly then little and will chirp for you.

I love raising chickens right from the egg it's so much easier to bond with them.

Went riding yesterday on the last nice day. Just bareback around the pen since it's drying out. The back pasture is really dry and the grass is growing nicely. Grazing will be very nice this year.

My nephew is doing much better and we have good news from the third Neuro doctor that he will have a normal life although he does have some problems. So finally relief on that.

Some pictures of the chicks:

Little Foot

Muffin catching some sleep.

My bold Little foot. or some reason they like to sleep in their food.

Awwww. But i have been busy, horses, school, planning and such.

Lets see though, I have finally started my Eggs, and put them in the incubator on the 6th and 7th of this month so in a couple of weeks i will have full responsibility of taking care of baby chicks. We sell our eggs, so to keep up with demand i have to supply more egg layers. we could buy chicks from our local hatchery's but I'd rather save money and hatch them myself.

I was also finally able to put away the water heaters and bring out the summer water trough outside. The back pastures a mess of mud and water and i don't see the horses going out there till middle June. The pasture grass we planted is growing in nicely so they should have good grazing, which is exciting. I just can't wait to see them be able to fully run. They can in the front paddock but not to much. All i have been doing lately is brushing them, it seems they are growing nice summer coats under all that shedding. Can't wait to give them a bath, that will be nice.

Some day's it's nice out high 60's other days like today and the past couple days it's been cold and rainy. Darn weather needs to make up it's mind on what it wants to do.

Today i traded my Barb Rock rooster for a Bantam one. I got my eggs out of Mean Red so i dident mind the trade. I would have had Three roosters if i would have kept Red. But no thank you i was getting tired of being chased by him. I have yet to name the new Rooster.

I got new collars for the dogs, they needed new ones badly that was for sure. Pink for Brittany, blue for Duke, and red for Riley. They even got new tennis balls. Brittany likes to play fetch, i throw she will go after it, but she dosent have the concept of give it back. Duke knows exactly how to play, and Riley well poor Riley has no ideal what to do. He's not really on the smart side.

I've been riding the horses as much as i can, mainly jumping on bareback and walking them around. With everything so Muddy it's not the best ideal to ride at the moment and everyones to busy to go on the road with me. But i don't think the horses are ready for the road, they are a bit jittery so it's groundwork for them. I'm getting better tacking up all by myself. Cinching was my big problem because i dident have enough strength in my wrists to do it.

I'm still convincing my parents to build a round pen in the back field. My mom thinks it's a good ideal but my dads Leary. He's an old fashioned kind of farmer, and he says we already have two big projects of the year but we will see. I have a feeling if i get ideals we can do it, but metal ones are out of the question.

We finally got out rabbit hutch done. Rabbits were getting to big for their cage and were fighting to much. But now they love their new home.

Thats about it for now, of course pictures will be included::

Horse stalls made of our own tree's we cut down and got processed. First stall is Asinaways, second Comets.

New Rabbit hutch, black and white(Nibbles) White (Thumper)

Tiffany sleeping on my bed.

Asinaway after getting all groomed.

Happy easter

Happy Easter!

Although my family does not celebrate this holiday anymore. It is still my faveriote and knowing this my boyfriend made it the best for me. I had spent the night at his house, and he woke me up with some tasty waffles and bacon. Then an easter basket with the biggest chocolate bunny i have ever seen and other yummy things. It amazes me the stuff he will do for me just to see me smile and make me happy. He's such a great man, the best a country girl could ask for in a city boy.

When i got home at 12, my mother told me it was time to start cleaning the basement for my slumber party for my senior friends. I haven't had a slumber party in years and i thought heck before i graduate i may as well have one. This basically took us all day, so sadly no time for the horses. But i did get to wash my dogs, now they smell all good. Not stinky, but we shall see how clean they stay.

But around 5 i did sneak myself away to go give kisses and treats to my horses. I did the barn chores (minus cleaning stalls, it was getting dark out) Then let them in for the night. boy were they happy, then again they are always happy to go in. Not much happened today, nothing exciting anyways. It was kinda warm outside, no rain and no snow.

Pictures:

Duke, getting his bath.

Some random things from my barn. Gives me hints spring is defiantly here, but then again i don't need a sunny day to tell me that. With all this Mud and water thats basically everywhere i walk. So with this excitement i had to do something outside. Calling my Friend Danni who is also into horses i started to make plans with her.

The plan was to go up to our local tack shop, get my English Girth. Then go visit her horse at the trainers, then come back to my house and go for a ride on my horses. Well all went well until the last part. It's true horses act a bit different with spring in the air. Can't blame em really, it's getting warmer they are shedding. Grazing will soon be coming up.

Anyways, it started of okay. I tacked up Asinaway with the help up my friend. Plan was she would ride her and i would ride comet bareback. Well let me tell you, plans don't always go as planned. Tacking up went alright, horses were a bit jumpy. Stupid us dident free lunge em like we should have(mistake one). We then mounted and i opened the gate. Comet walked out fine then went on the breaks when he saw a small snowy hill that he could easily walked over. So i had Danni ride over it with Asin, then i tried following. Mistake number two, i let comet smell it and then he freaked. The horse that barley spooks at anything, spooked at the darn snow. He was backing up, trying to run from it, but i stayed on (mind you I'm bareback) Then he did the very thing that he has never done with me, he did a small rear. Oh boy did this get my heart going. I stayed on until he came down from his rear, but i knew i could no longer stay on saftley, so i slid of with a tight grip on the rein . I calmed him down the best i could.

I decided i was not going to give up today and so i walked him down the road with my friend following closely. He was jumpy walking fast but i was determined. After a bit my friend and me switched and i rode Asin back to the house( the second time i ever rode her/ i have a fear for large horses which I'm getting over fast since she was a dream to ride)

We ended up tacking comet up and rode for a bit longer until Asin got excited and started taking of with me on her. But i stopped her and we rode for a bit more then turned back to the house knowing it was best to end it for today. We untacked then free lunged them to get some silly s out and then ended with a good note for the day. although they were slightly bad it was to be expected and i think i handled it all well even though my heart wanted to fall out of my chest.

My learning experience, don't think a horse can't do something and at times my calm horse is a big baby.

Pictures for the day. sadly we had none of us riding, i forgot my camera inside.

Beautiful Princess Asinaway.

Horse barn, we built ourself. It's not quite done yet.

Our chicken pen, posted just for the sake of posting it.

Work.

Lucky me it's easter break so no School for me today. Of course i did not sleep in, 8am i woke up to start my day. Instead of eating breakfast or getting myself ready for the day i go outside to let the horses out and give them their morning hay. After i know they are happy i go back inside, eat, get on the internet do normal stuff on a day off.

I forgot how Muddy it gets here in spring. I'm starting to think it's hopeless to keep a horse clean this time of the year. Curry, brush, curry brush. Hair and tons of hair, did i mention curry and brush. I'm telling you it's a crazy thought if i am to keep them clean. My black hoodie would not be a barn hoodie with out the fashionable horse hair all over it.

So around three i know it is time to head out and do my daily chores that i have held of today. I'm not feeling my best and it will get done anyway. so off i go cleaning both stalls, then putting fresh clean straw. I have learned my Lesson for letting a stall go to long without a whole clean. But of course i clean it everyday but Fridays or Sat are now my clean all of the dirty straw days.

Now i am exhausted and sore, of course i could not ride today. The ice has not fully melted yet and has become even slicker while it melts. so great care is in order and as of now it is unsafe to ride. With the horses in, goodnight kisses are given and all lights are out and doors shut. It is bed time for the animals on the Mahalak farm.

So i was to tired to get new pictures taken, so here are some old ones of this summer of some of my animals not yet seen.

My moms cat Tiffany

Some of my chickens when they were still quite young

My saddle, i said what they hay may as well post this too.

                                                                                             Jennifer
